Progress!

I have only just begun...
And I'm trying to figure out how in the world people reupholster all on their own. I have watched my mom work miracles with fabric before (which resulted in both praise and laughter at times - like those ginormous zebra pajama pants that she made for me). But I must have missed a few sewing lessons because it takes me quite a while to make progress.

BUT! I finally started taking the cushions apart, which made me pretty committed. It's hard to give up when it is staring you down all day. So I completed my first cushion.
What do you think?

On a Personal Note ~ The Vow

Mushy love --- I love it, sometimes.
And yesterday was one of those times.
We saw "The Vow" yesterday and loved it!

Number one: It's a true story. Enough said.
Number two: Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. My faves. Together.
Number three: The home decor was awesome.
 Look at those lighting fixtures!

This is by far my favorite part of the home! I love the use of color, the open shelving, and the island that serves as a table as well.

Do you ever get ideas from movie decor?

On a Personal Note: Living Room

I really did it.
I made the big purchase.
This lovely fabric is currently being shipped to my house.
A lot of it.
And do you know what that means?
I have the best husband in the world
(because he actually encouraged this purchase)!!!
AND I am committed to this project
(because the fabric will be intimidating me in my own house)!!!

So our living room famous sofas are getting the biggest makeover in their history!
This is the largest purchase I have ever made based on a design-related decision with my own money! In most cases, my decisions are affecting other's bank accounts and home decor.

In other news, I got the sweetest note from my hubs yesterday. It was a pre-Valentine's surprise and I was overjoyed. I think he likes me. My girlfriend and I are planning a big to-do for our hubbies for tomorrow! And I'll give you some ideas for your day tomorrow, just in case something catches your eye:
We've been using this for about a month now: A Content Housewife

We'll be decorating and baking some yummy treats, and just to make sure the night isn't too feminine for the boys, we are making a fort! Enjoy your Valentine's Day tomorrow and happy planning!!!

The Great Sofa Debate

We have an antique sofa... that has a gorgeous shape and I love it. But the husband wants something more comfortable, like a sectional. So we go back and forth. Which would you choose?

The lovely antique?

Or the comfortable sectional?

Mercury Glass Lamps

Remember this pic from Monday? These pendants make the space for me.

As I was contemplating my living room space I was thinking of all the details of the room and knew I wanted mercury glass lamps. Here are two options... but I'm wondering if I can DIY this one or if it will just be better to buy them. Of course if I DIY it there will be a tutorial.

DIY Pillows

Okay peeps, I need your advice.
Risa and I are taking on some living room projects...

You know those moments in life when you feel a little lost about what you're supposed to do?
I feel like I've been in that "moment" for a while now...
So I'm crafting until I receive some inspiration.
And my living room is the first to benefit from my crafting.

My fabric samples should arrive this week,
and I'm 99% sure I'm going to use this fabric for the sofa:
To see the other options, click here.

I need some opinions... what pillows do you like below?

So what pillows do you like?

P.S. I have some pinspiration projects that haven't been posted yet!
And I'm excited to share!
So stay tuned!

Also, I have decided this is my next DIY project:
Super cute place to write love notes every morning!

Living Room

With the holidays behind us it's time to re-focus my creative efforts on my home. I really thought I had figured out what I wanted to do with our living/dining room. That is until I watched It's Complicated again. Have you seen it? It's funny but the interiors are what really shine in this film. I have been really thinking about how I want this area of our home to be warm, comfortable, inviting and a bit glam. Watching the film really cemented the desire to have a comfortable welcoming space and set me on a neutral loving path. Here are some images from the film but I think you should watch it to really take them in.

I loved the use of neutrals such as beige and tan with the added contrast of black. I couldn't get it out of my head for weeks.

Then I saw this image on pinterest and I was really starting to get inspired... just change out the dark tan/brown to black and it would be perfect for me.

Here are some of my inspirational spaces I've been pinning.

love a little pattern thrown in
i like the light greige on the walls

love these tones and the light fixtures

the walls may be a bit dark for my space but i like the glam in this room. probably more than what i'll do.

So, it's official. I'm going the neutral route in my living/dining area. It's going to be warm, woodsy, glam, and comfortably inviting.

Fabric ideas...

We have a pair of sofas that I purchased for my first apartment.
And now, I think it's time that I "modernize" them...

This was my original inspiration:

Have I found that perfect fabric? No.
Am I sold on any of these options? No.
But I have hope. :)
Really, it's more difficult to design for your own house than it is to design for others.

Do you like any of the fabrics above?
I'm just starting my search, so suggestions would be much appreciated. :)
