Pinspiration Project ~ Dinosaur Legwarmers

My daughter's best friend just turned 3 and loves dinosaurs, so when I saw this pin I knew I'd have to make some of these for her for her birthday.

Here's my quick overview in pics of how I did it.
This little girl is tiny and I knew I wouldn't be able to find toddler knee socks in a hurry so I bought some cheap women's socks at Target and chopped off the foot. So instead of socks these are arm/legwarmers.

Then I cut up the back center fold.

Open it and lay it flat. Turn up bottom, freshly cut, edge and press and sew.

I just copied the shape of spikes from the original blogger and cut out 24. 12 for each pair of socks. Then I laid them out on the right side edge of each sock... on the right side of fabric.

Pin in place.

Fold sock in half wrong side out, right sides together, and I pinned in place so nothing would shift when I sewed. Then I used an over-locking stitch and sewed the edge closed, and I used a 1/2 inch seam allowance so I could make sure to catch all the spikes.

Turn right side out and you're done!

Here are the two pairs I made for our little friend.

I also made her this t-shirt to round out the look using a freezer paper stencil.

Our friend LOVED her gift. We went out today and she was wearing the shirt, and a set of leg warmers on her legs and the other set on her arms. My daughter was really excited to watch me make all this as I told her it was a present for her friend. I've never seen her more excited to watch someone else open a present.

So technically, I'm not a pro.

That's for sure.

So maybe for Valentine's Day, I'll get more creative because it will be my second round.

Music is the perfect way to remember and reminisce.

The story behind the cover:

I generally cook a homemade meal and always try to have it done 

by the time my husband Kevin gets home. He's really sweet and always 

does the dishes and once he's done-if it was a really good meal,

we always end up dancing in the kitchen.

Which is almost all the time I get the courage and time

to whip something up. 

It's the highlight of my day and brings me JOY.

Pine Cone Pinspiration Project

This week's Pinspiration Project was inspired by this pin:

good housekeeping

Items needed:

Pine Cones

 Beads and string/ribbon/raffia (your choice)

 Spray Paint

What to do:

1. Spray Paint the pine cones of your liking.

2. Glue sting/ribbon/raffia (your choice) to each end of the pine cones. Use a hot glue gun, and make sure to not burn yourself. I happened to create a blister on our ancient glue gun that was created before heat regulations were put in place.

3. String beads on each end of the pine cone.

4. Tie knots and cut off extra string.

Simple, right? 

You could hang them almost anywhere for a little winter decor. 

Windows. Mantels. Bookcases.

Graduation Party

Some of you may know that I enjoy party planning.

Really, I do.

The fondant cake was my masterpiece. I was quite excited about it. The underlying emotion really was my excitement for my husband's graduation, but man was I excited about that cake. We had a blast and I think Ian feels that we celebrated his accomplishment properly. Love that man!

Holiday Pinspiration Project ~ Christmas Edition

I started hosting a craft night with some girls I know. It's an excuse to do things I've wanted to do but have put off for something else, and it forces me to clean the house ;)

At the last one I made sock snowmen inspired by this pin:

Here are mine. I used Christmas socks instead of some of the cheaper options I saw, and I'm glad. They're festive and they were easy to put together.

Holiday Blocks

 Yes, it's time for holiday decorating.

Well, at our house anyway.

I like simple accents, and I had a blast creating these!

To create these:

1. I went to http://www.allyourstorys.com and designed individual scrap pages. Actually I think the snow and autumn pages were already in the template gallery, now that I think of it! And I designed the Christmas page. 12x12 page BTW. I cut my 12x12 pages into 4 squares. 

2. I sanded my lovely blocks and painted them.

3. Lastly, I invited my peeps to a Girl's Night at my house. We crafted all night. We glued the lovely paper to each block with Mod Podge. If you haven't used Mod Podge before, you should.
